Queens College Presents “Crossing the BLVD,”A Re-Creation of the boroughs Immigrant Experiences by Judith Sloan and Warren Lehrer on Sunday, March 30th at 3:00 p.m. A compelling and humorous multimedia performance that re-creates the tumultuous lives and experiences of immigrants who have recently settled in Queens. Based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan. Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan take the audience on a virtual tour of different Queens neighborhoods for visits with the immigrant inhabitants described in the book. While Lehrer narrates the scenes, Sloan transforms herself through voice and gesture, assuming the personae of many of these immigrants. She relates their powerful oral histories about perilous journeys, personal/family conflicts, wars, and cultural divides. A soundtrack of original music, sounds, and voices adds dramatic dimension to the program. After the performance, popular WNYC radio talk show host Brian Lehrer will moderate a Q&A between the actors and audience. Goldstein Theater: Queens College: 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, NY Tickets are $12. directions here |
