Don't threaten me with a good time : Winter TV

by Lizabeth Nieves

With temperatures hitting all time lows, nothing is more inviting than watching your favorite tv shows curled up on the couch. (After hitting the gym, of course.) But what to watch with the writers strike effectively cutting short the momentum of last fall’s line-up?

Good news? There’s plenty of television out there, that’s not reality television. Bad news, some of the shows are the “fillers” that are brought back in between repeats of the other shows. The best news? Lost is finally coming back on January 31st. There are eight definite episodes ready, and hopefully the strike will be over soon, so we can have the episodes viewed consecutively as intended. After a slow starting third season, the show got back in its groove and ended the season with a possible rescue and flash forwards. If you haven’t seen the previews for season for click here. All sci-fi fans, sit tight because the fourth and last season of Battlestar Gallactica will premiere in March. This season will center on the final push towards Earth.

Everyone’s favorite serial killer who hunts other serial killers, Dexter, will make his primetime debut on CBS. Thank you, Les Moonves. With season to just ending on Showtime, it will be interesting to see where the censors clean up this show. The Wire will be wrapping up its series on January 6, with the last 10 episodes. Picking up a year from when the season last ended, this gritty drama has flown under the radar for many years…I am a bit intrigued by the idea of The Chronicles of Sarah Connor, which starts on January 14. Who can forget that scene where Linda Hamilton is doing chin ups and introduces the one of the most bad ass female physiques ever seen on the big screen? Almost enough to eliminate that horrible beauty and the beast TV show memory.

TV fillers, Jericho (February 12), Dirt, and Prison Break (Jan 14) will all be returning.

Medium, after a long hiatus returns, on January 7. Sex and the City fans, have Candace Bushnell’s latest book, now TV show to hold them over until the movie opens this spring. Lipstick Jungle, stars Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price. As always, with Bushnell’s books, lets hope the tv writers take it up a notch. The Return of Jezebel James by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman- Palladino will hopefully finally premiere. This one has got Lauren Ambrose and Parkey Posey chatting it up Palladino style.

One Tree Hill returns, miraculously. Flashing forward five years, the stars will hopefully act the age they looked in high school. The Tudors is finally returning to Showtime for a second season on March 30th and everyone’s favorite lesbians return on the L Word, on January 6th for its 5th season.  I have saved the best for last… Bret Michaels armed with his bad weaves, (yes, he sports more than one) will seduce another skanky group of strippers, ex porn stars and small town girls trapped in the 80’s on Rock of Love. I love it. Show premieres, January 13. I will be firmly glued to my couch, and don’t lie, you will be too.  Until then, enjoy this preview.
